I thought it seemed strange that GS was expanding while I was watching LSC get smaller and smaller.

I have a smaller firm (5 to 10 lawyers), so I don't understand how these larger firms make so many stupid decisions and can't operate. I think this sort of thing happens because of egos exceeding business acumen. Within, what, 4 years?, they had expanded into AZ, CA and who knows where else and taken on a whole bunch of additional "practice groups" that they knew nothing about and that they overpaid in order to attract onboard. Having promised all the new lawyers that they were going to be "just like the big guys," they then had to live up to it, with shiny and expensive new digs and regionally competitive salaries for all. All of that plus the fact we were, uh, hello, in the Great Recession?, was a great recipe for exactly what has happened. The lesson here boys and girls? Keep your testosterone and egos out of the Managing Partner/CEO office. We need judges to make correct decisions, not "politically correct" decisions, free from outside influence. The NLV judge should not have to check in with the mayor or police chief or Dave Thomas to get permission for judicial decisions. What does this action imply about all of those other judges Thomas helped get elected? To whom are they beholden to? I guess one would need to look at all of their little endorsement stickers on their campaign paraphernalia?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7637960526696603209.post-77571245841738444342015-06-11T14:30:38.212-07:002015-06-11T14:30:38.212-07:001:43 smacks of non lawyer, RJ comment posting inte...1:43 smacks of non lawyer, RJ comment posting internet troll. I don't live in NLV so I don't know all the facts but the Separation of Powers doctrine does not allow wholesale judicial control over the proceeds of misdemeanor and traffic fines. That revenue has, since merry old England, been used to provide a host of municipal services. It is not supposed to be a judicial slush fund. After all, it requires law enforcement, prosecutors and defense counsel to move those case along.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7637960526696603209.post-20434235685017687512015-06-11T13:57:51.803-07:002015-06-11T13:57:51.803-07:00Wow! It is the concept of separation of powers that protects the people from corrupt abuse. The judge decides when the law is broken, and whether the evidence supports the result. Here the NLV executive branch has overstepped their lawful powers. Good for this to be investigated and reformed before the citizens are further harmed by these power hungry executive predators and their paid henchmen.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
