Slow Your Roll

Things are getting heated in the most important municipal judge election of our time. It looks like it is all going to come down to whether the Rock endorsed Judge Heidi Almsase. [RJ]

  1. Speaking of slow, haven't heard much about Rob Graham or Alessi & Koenig lately. Any news, fake news, or salacious gossip to report?

  3. I just think Michelle Fiore is smashing. She's all big and bouncy and smiling and batsh*t crazy. She's just the embodiment of Nevada, all dirty and sexy and disgusting. I love her for her complete absence of shame. We should have a President like her.

"Dreams only die when we let them go

Storm Fagan seems like an ordinary middle-aged wife and mother, except her dream of being a rock star still weighs heavy on her soul. Twenty years earlier she was going to be the next big thing, but love and life took her on a different path. Returning to her dream, Storm follows her heart and finds the world of rock-n-roll an unforgiving and vain place. Storm sheds her inhibitions and 35 pounds, resolving to form her own band and put her ambition into overdrive.

It would seem the whole world, including her husband Jay (Gary Graham, Alien Nation, Star Trek, JAG) and one particular music agent, Sharon Cox (Erin Gray, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Silver Spoons) believe that Storm has simply lost her mind. On the journey of leaving her ordinary life behind, Storm risks everything including her marriage to pursue the impossible dream.

  4. does anyone know if the mailer from almase's camp trashing campbell for being married to a criminal defense attorney was sent by her or a PAC??? and wait, isn't almase married to a criminal defense attorney?

    1. Her campaign manager posted something that seemed to point the finger at her opponent for sending out several mailers to deceive people...

But then Almase apologized for sending it on her fb page.

    2. The mailer says "Paid for by the Committee to Re-Elect Judge Heidi Almase for Municipal Court Judge." The address is the same as the one that is on the documents filed with the Secretary of State. Almase is divorced, but she was married to Cesar and has kids with him.

    3. So she sent the mailer herself. Knowingly. Even though she was indeed married to a criminal defense attorney (who himself has been arrested, to my understanding) when she first became a judge. Doesn't that show terrible judgment?

      Delete
    4. They've both shown terrible judgment in their campaigns. I can't stand either and don't plan to vote. Most of the people that I know (attorneys and non-attorneys) are staying out of it as well. I think everyone is just sick of hearing about it. It's f'ing Municipal Court. No one cares. Especially with these two dimwit candidates.

    5. Is Heidi Almase married to Caesar Almase?

    6. @11:42 she used to be married to him. apparently she divorced him after his second arrest for DUI.

    7. Is being married to a drunk a prerequisite for running for Muni Ct Dept. 3?

    8. @12:35 - He divorced her. She was sleeping with her marshall.

    9. Hi 1:05. First time poster, long time reader. I came out of lurking to tell you that you're an ass. Judging a person-any person-does not define who they are, it defines who you are. At least one of the individuals your posted is directed towards is a close personal friend. Trust me when I tell you that you are extremely misinformed and sound downright idiotic. I’d tell you to take your miniature penis out and go screw yourself, but I worry you’ll be as disappointed with yourself as I am. So instead I'll just tell you to F off.

      Delete
    10. @2:28 - so are you saying that Caesar Almase has NOT been arrested twice for DUI?

      Delete
    11. Methinks @2:28 was defending the other drunkard spouse.

  6. Cara Campbell is a DA for 20 years married to a defense attorney. How does that make her unqualified for muni court that is mostly criminal misdemeanors where you want someone who is balanced?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Damn. 20 years??? I didn't realize she was that old. But bragging about being a lifelong prosecutor in one sentence and claiming to be fair and balanced on criminal matters in the next seems kinda oxymoronic, no?

No matter, sounds like Heidi's goose is cooked anyway.

    2. Yes, Cara Campbell is old. She is in her mid to late forties. ANCIENT, gimme a Nell Carter break.

    3. 9:56 here. I didn't mean old as in age. Poor choice of words. I meant old as in she's been practicing a lot longer than I thought. And I worked as a DA early on in my career!

  9. It's 10:30 a.m. on June 8, 2017....and STILL no one gives a rat's arse about a MUNI COURT RACE. Total voter turn out's gonna be like 50 MAX. So STFU and let it die already, wouldya?!

  10. Seems like a pretty desperate act by Almase to knock someone's family or allege that it is why they shouldn't be elected. The ads in the LVRJ story by her seem like personal attacks and not well thought out - like the one that alienates every attorney in Las Vegas who has ever defended someone charged with a crime. Her apology is essentially "oops, didn't know that people with a brain would read my crazy ads." Seems like the kind of sh*&&^t I would post when drunk. I don't really know her and don't practice much in Muni Court but she has lost my vote.

    4. Oasis. Esquire and Lit. Services would be runners up. Oasis is locally owned so if you have an issue with anything, you pick up the phone and talk to the owner, not some corporate office somewhere. They also have some nice space over at the Eglet Palace of Justice.

    6. We used Associated/Esquire for over a decade. But it has gone WAY downhill since the Dan/Barbara Seaton days. Service is down; cost is way (and I mean WAAAAY) up.

We tried US Legal Services. Holy f*** are they expensive.

We tried Oasis. Honestly Bill LaBorde is doing a good job for us. It sickens me that our dollars are indirectly going to the Eglet Palace of Juiciness but Oasis has been pretty good.

  14. Looking at the entirety of the controversy in the Municipal race, Almase may actually be benefitting a great deal more than Campbell.

Admittedly, the conventional wisdom would be the complete opposite, and understandably so. Almase claimed, or at least strongly implied, a non existent celebrity endorsement, was forced to apologize, and as a result fired her campaign manager--meaning both campaign managers she has had, have ultimately left. Doesn't looks good. But, if you peel it away a little, Almase actually has the significant advantage. Humor me and stay with me:

    1. Very few people, except supporters of Almase, or supporters of her opponent, will be viewing the Facebook page which includes Almase's embarrassing apology about the false celebrity endorsement. Thus, pretty much all those who view the page have certainly made up their mind about the race.

    2. Admittedly, a far greater number will see the RJ article surrounding this controversy, but it is still only a fraction of the number who would read the paper a decade or two ago.

    3. Yet the mailers Almase is sending to habitual municipal voters, wherein she slimes Campbell for supposedly being owned by the defense bar, and prioritizing putting criminals out on the street, are being sent directly to the relatively people who habitually vote in the municipal elections.

And don't over-estimate the intelligence and signification of a great many municipal voters--many who are elderly city dwellers who live in constant fear(justified or otherwise) of crime.

Admittedly, the assertions of the mailer are clearly ludicrous. A 20-year prosecutor is not going to be rapidly pro-defendant merely because her husband practices some defense work. That is, to any discerning person, preposterous beyond measure.

But a lot of voters are hardly discerning, and the mailers do not emphasize Campbell's prosecutorial career. Instead, accompanied by histrionic graphics, it screams in large font about how Campbell is endangering us by putting the scum back on the street.

Don't give most voters much credit for nuance or discernment. Many will be taken in by it. Tom Letizia, Campbell's manager, should respond in kind, by aggressive, targeted direct mail to confirmed municipal voters, rather than relying on severely dwindling RJ readership, or Facebook pages, to score the points they need in the campaign.

Only way to respond to direct mail is with direct mail(or perhaps television and radio if that is cost efficient for them to pursue).

    3. Both pictures are creepy. Both candidates suck. But who doesn't love a bit of local legal gossip? By the way, her former campaign manager is reporting that despite all of this nonsense, she's still ahead in the polls. I'm starting to think Las Vegas enjoys seeing some crazy on the bench.
