  1. $40 is now due to the CLE board a bit earlier. Good news is you no longer have to send in the compliance statement (that they used to send out late or not at all). If the website says you're in compliance, you're allowed to rely on that, so I would check it, update anything immediately if necessary, and print off a copy of the report indicating compliance for the current year for your records.

    1. The CLE Board accumulated almost a one million dollar surplus! The Supremes appointed a Committee to decide what to do about this. One possibility was to eliminate the fee and have the providers pay instead of the attorneys. This apparently was never adopted. So we still have to pay the fee. The service the CLE Board provides to the lawyers as opposed to the State Bar is good. But why do we have to pay an additional $40.00 on top of our bar dues and on top of the cost for CLE? This fee started out smaller years ago as I recall. The requirement for substance abuse is onerous. There was a rumor they were going to require more on substance abuse and mental health. More requirements. More cost. More regulations.I get a headache just looking at it.

    2. How is the substance abuse requirement onerous? It just counts as part of your 12 total credits. It's one course. And given the number of attorneys with substance abuse issues its probably a good thing that people are made aware of these issues. If you really don't want to physically attend something, you can order an online course set for like $70 that covers all of your requirements.

  2. Any truth to the rumor of Judge Walsh retiring?

    2. When? January 1?

    3. I have heard January 6th.

    4. The 1/5/17 agenda for the Commission on Judicial Selection states that the Commission will discuss a timeline for interviews for Department 10 and Department 18. I would say that confirms the rumor. It seems like Walsh has been gone for awhile already. This all seems pretty hush hush. http://nvcourts.gov/AOC/Committees_and_Commissions/Judicial_Selection/Documents/Meeting_Agendas/January_5,_2017_Meeting_Notice_and_Agenda/

    5. How do you retire and no one knows that you have retired? Unless for Pension Purposes the official letter of resignation will be sent on 1/2/17?

  8. For those of you who know Jim Edwards, his dad, Coach LaVell Edwards also died yesterday or today. Man what a rotten year in so many ways.

    1. And unlike so many of the celebrities we immortalize in death, LaVell Edwards was actually an exceptional person who lead an exemplary life.

And I say that as someone who hates BYU football.
