  1. Don't worry, current AG Laxalt (lacking a basic skill set as an attorney) will spend millions defending the school choice bill. Apparently nobody already making six figures at the AG's office is capable of handling NSC argument.

  2. The fencing yesterday was really interesting. Daryl Homer was so fast. That Hungarian guy was great, though.

  3. Lawyer Bird, Laxalt is such a genius he hired a Solicitor General who cannot practice law in Nevada except in a limited fashion under Supreme Court Rule 49.8. Essentially, our current SG can advise the AG and draft briefs that must be reviewed and signed by an actual Nevada lawyer in the office, you know, like a law student intern. He can't file a brief on his own or argue a case.

    1. Actually he can, and has, argued before the NVSCT.

    2. The limited license or "C" number is so big you can drive a truck through it. There are so many exceptions to the bar exam that it is disgusting. It started with rural DA's and PD's, then the judicial college faculty, then Legal Aid attorneys, then UNLV Law Professors, law students, clinical professors, and even attorneys employed by the State Bar. Take a look at NvSCt Rule 49.1 to 49.11. We need to have a requirement like California, everybody must take the bar exam to be admitted. End of story.

    3. Hard to get worked up over C licensing. None of those people are taking food off my table. If the AG wants a guy as his SG, okay. Admittedly this SG isn't my cup of tea ideologically, but he's smart and professional and executes their model.

    4. Their model is to hire a bunch of people who aren't licensed here, and aren't from here, pay them top dollar to make critical decisions about Nevada, and then have them not actually do the work that needs doing and instead hire outside counsel for even more money. YOUR money. Food off YOUR table.

    3. My experience with her has been that she lacks personal responsibility and thinks she doesn't need to follow the rules. I will NOT vote for her.

  5. Kutner's continuing saga against the WWL blog continued this morning in Dept. 24. He's still fishing for the identity of the blog owner/commenters who "defamed" him by discussing the City Life article about his kind and gentle demeanor around the office.

His attorney filed a motion seeking approval of subpoenas to Google to obtain the identity of the WWL blog owner and commenters. Judge Crockett couldn't figure out why they were filing a motion first without just going through the standard procedure for issuing an out-of-state subpoena. He denied the motion.

    1. The CityLife article is no longer online, but this litigation has spawned new articles and online content. Kutner has, IN MY OPINION, botched the way he has handled this. Read up on the Streisand Effect, Adam!
