Burning Questions

  • Some new traffic laws take effect today. [RJ]
  • More on Silverstone golf course. [RJ]
  • The last defendant in the HOA scandal was found guilty. [RJ]
It seems like there are a lot of questions that pop up now and again in the comments. Like us, a lot of you are left wondering what is happening with things that got brought up in the news, but haven't had much coverage since. Here's your chance to ask those questions again and we'll see if someone has the answer.  If you know the answer to any of the following (or have your own new question), put them in the comments:
  • Is Judge Scann still off the bench? How's she doing?
  • Anyone have a status update on the post-Lionel Sawyer issues?
  • Anyone have a status update on the Gordon Silver lawsuits?
  • What's going on with the recall effort in North Las Vegas?
  • Does anyone miss the Las Vegas Constable's office?
  • Is the find-a-lawyer function on the State Bar website functioning properly?
  • ???

  1. The recall effort was stayed by the state supreme court. Oral arguments before said court are scheduled for Monday, October 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the RJC. Snell & Wilmer is representing the City of North Las Vegas. Dominic Gentile and Ross Miller are representing the recall petitioners. Craig Mueller is representing Judge Catherine Ramsey.

  4. The Eglet trial is still going on. There won't be closings for another two weeks? Long trial it seems. Have not been following.

  5. The RJ has it all wrong on Northtown Judge Ramsey. The recall is politically motivated. The current City Attorney is waiting in the wings to run against her and replace her. The issue is a toss up and don't know how the court is going to rule on whether judges can be recalled. In this case, the recall is fraught with issues.

    1. What do you think the issues with the recall are? I've followed the case a bit, and I don't think the recall is flawed. Seems like it was done by the book/statute.

It might be politically motivated, but so what? Recall can be based on any reason, it doesn't have to be for cause. The people can decide Ramsey's hair is obnoxious and boot her. If the recall effort has nothing but political motivations, the people can decide to keep her. Ramsey can campaign to keep her seat just like the recall group can campaign to have her removed.

    1. I believe, and I may be wrong, that Judge Scann was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Like I said, this is not verified in any way, but I believe one of the district court clerks provided me the information, it has been a while. She truly is a great judge and she is missed.

    2. Judge Scann is not coming back to the bench and I am told may not have more than 6-12 months to live. Sad stuff
