Before The Rain

  • Locally-based Rimini Street was ordered to pay Oracle $50 million after a trial in federal court. Anyone know what attorneys should be getting a pat on the back or kicked to the curb? [Las Vegas Sun]

  • Justice of the Peace Ann Zimmerman set bail at $1 million for a phony doctor after prosecutors said they were considering a murder charge. [RJ]

  2. Considering the approximately $250 million Oracle was asking for, the $50 million dollar verdict was a gift to the defense

    1. I saw that. Sad. How many deaths is that now in the HOA scandal?

    2. Oh my, another ghost walks over my grave. RIP

      Trigger alert, political commentary ahead:

He was not a good man in any sense of the word, but if some illegal immigrant can cross over the Rio Grande and walk into a hospital and get whatever surgery he needs, it screams injustice that a citizen who did at least pay some taxes for a while goes without necessary medical care. His blood is on Obama's hands.

    6. Holy shit. That is sad.

    7. That's seven deaths now. But I can almost guarantee that 100% of those involved in the Hoa scandal will be dead before this time next century.

    8. No disrespect to Levinson, but the HOA scandal is a freak show. I think there is more shit that is going to come out about this as time passes.

    9. No there won't. Its over. Just like "more will come out of the Medical Mafia" and didn't. It is over. Some bad people went down and quite a few good people got destroyed in the process and no one is better for it.

    10. The good people who got destroyed in the HOA scandal were the home owners and the tax payers who had to pay to prosecute this debacle. Getting a pass because you turned state's does not make one a good person.

  5. From my understanding in the tech press, Rimini was found liable for incidental infringement versus intentional infringement, and thus is forced to pay a license fee versus a theft measure of damages.

    1. Which seems like it would be a big deal to Rimini's reputation in the tech world

    2. Let it never be said that Eglet missed a chance to use current events in an effort to force defendants to oppose dumbass motions: https://danagentrylv.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/20151009-p-mtnaffirmblacklivesmatter-doc-final-1.pdf

    3. Despite the title, this motion is right on and should have been filed long before the "current events."

    4. Proposed questionnaire question: “Have you ever been a member of a racially biased group or organization?”

Sounds like Mormons and all other Republicans will be excused.

    5. Better question: Have you ever been a member of a group, club, or religious group that has treated people differently based upon race or ethnicity?

    6. So because I am Mormon, it's presumed I'm racist. Awesome.

    7. "So because I am Mormon, it's presumed I'm racist"

Yup, that's where Eglet is going. Viewers of Fox News too.

    8. I truly look forward to seeing a document titled "Opposition to Motion to Affirm Black Lives Matter." I'm sure the reply to the same will claim defense counsel all have pointy hoods hanging in their closets.

Does this qualify as playing in the A league?

    4. Pretty sure 12:10 was sarcasm. If not, surely we can avoid disparaging the poster for ignorance, amirite?

    5. Wow, there are some insecurities. I never heard of this law firm either.

    6. Can someone explain the humor in connection with the Boyd Class of 2013 being brilliant or having great accomplishments? Is it some kind of inside joke? I am not a Boyd grad so don't get the humor.

    7. But are they in the Legal Elite? LOL [Yes, that was intentional sarcasm to poke fun at the stupidest list of bull crap in the history of so-called lists.]

    8. Being Boyd 2011-2013 is like being listed on Super Lawyer, with both parties paying about the same amount for the "honor."

  11. John Bailey and Dennis Kennedy both left Lionel, Sawyer, long before it's downhill slide. Both have distinguished themselves as highly competent and ethical complex litigators. John Bailey is the son of Bob Bailey. http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/bob-bailey

  12. The person with the hard on about Boyd class of 2013 is growing as tiresome as double kickstands guy and the person who was obsessed with the "BK Hottie."

    1. So let's have Bk hottie meet Boyd 2013 dumbie. Boyd 2013 hottie and dumbie. Ah, it is so easy to pick on Boyd 2011-2013. Think I will stick with that.

    2. You're boring and repetitive. If you're going to keep bashing, say something more specific and substantive about them. Or at least something witty. Repeatedly saying "they're dumb" contributes nothing to the blog.
