Quick Legal News Roundup

I don't have much time to do one of those long and in-depth articles that make this site so famous, but there are a few items of note in the legal news today:

As we pointed out yesterday, there is a battle brewing between David Roger and Family Court Judge Steve Jones. The latest casualty: Roger fired the prosecutor who was allegedly getting "cozy" with the judge. Who's the bully now?

Two civil rights groups are requesting that the Department of Justice investigate Metro's use of deadly force in a recent shooting of an unarmed veteran.

And, as one of our anonymous commenters pointed out yesterday, Harry Reid's son just landed a $190k/year job as the City Attorney of Henderson. Apparently there is some controversy involved in his appointment, after it was learned that his father "called at least two city council members to lobby for his son."

And in sports news, the Rebels finally got a win last night against UTEP, 65-54, after losing their last two games.

That's all I've got for now, have a great Thursday!

  1. Well, I guess those of us in the DA's office who were feeling secure better straighten up and fly right. Mr. Roger still has 19 more days to wreak havoc.

  2. The firing is appropriate. No matter how good of a person she is, she should not have been balling a judge she appears in front of.

  3. It could be worse, she could have pulled a Roundtree, right?

  4. Why did she get fired now? In October, they thought tranferring her to another judge was sufficient. Admittedly, she acted like an idiot, dating a judge. Especially that judge. Doesn't she know how to Google?

  5. I agree with @11:22. Those of you in the DA's Office who were feeling secure underneath Judge Jones's desk better straighten up but only once you climb out from underneath there. For those DA's who think that the behavior was appropriate, leave your email address below and we will send you a complimentary copy of the Rules of Professional Conduct.

@12:21-- insubordination in light of the manner in which the events of the past few days have transpired

  6. Someone yesterday commented that Jones' robe seems to be made of Teflon. If he hasn't been bumped from the bench for some of the other crap he's pulled, what makes anyone think he'll even get a slap on the wrist for these shenanigans?

    Vagas Baby!

  8. I'm always the last to know - but in case anyone hasn't heard - Zach Larson's BK firm is the one merging with MAC.

  9. Will the name change?

    MAC & ZACH?
    MC AZ (in the house!)
    CLAM?
    MALCractice?

Ooh, the world of puns just opens up when you add another letter!

  10. Ralston says Don Chairez is sending out dirt about other DA candidates. Anyone get the dirt?

  11. Chairez = Halverson!!! He is who we have to thank for her presence in LV and as a law clerk in the Courthouse. Moron and a loser.

  12. Chairez or Halverson?

  13. Both but I was referring to Chairez.

  14. Chairez was a classmate of the Halverson at USC Law and thinks she's brilliant. He convinced her to move here to be his law clerk when he was appointed to the Bench. Thanks Don for being part of that national embarrassment to the Las Vegas legal community.
