Thursday News Roundup!

Image from: here
On Monday, Las Vegas attorney David Amesbury pleaded guilty for his role in the well-publicised scheme to fraudulently gain control of condominium homeowners’ associations (HOAs) in the Las Vegas area so that the HOAs would direct business to a certain law firm and construction company, and for his role in a scheme to commit bank fraud.
According to the DOJ website, Amesbury, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud.  Amesbury is the eighth person to plead guilty in connection with the scheme to defraud HOAs in the Las Vegas area.  Amesbury also pleaded guilty to participating in a scheme to submit false information to a bank with the intention of obtaining a bank loan for a cafĂ© in downtown Las Vegas of which he was an owner.

As a tipster pointed out: the ABA website has the details here.

I wonder how Amesbury's wife is handling all this?

The Righthaven beat-down continues - most recently on Wednesday when U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt ordered Righthaven to pay nearly $120,000 in attorney fees and court costs after yet another  infringement lawsuit was dismissed because Righthaven apparently lacks standing to bring its copyright suits on behalf of LVRJ owner Stephens Media LLC.

Friday News Roundup!

Image from: here
As many of you know, its party time tonight at CPK's place!  I could be mistaken, but I think the party is at thier new offices - convieniently located at 501 S. 8th Street in downtown Las Vegas.  Please report all good gossip and forward all good pictures from the party.

Also, it looks like MAC finaly got a long overdue website makeover.  Some of the attorneys now even have videos on their profile pages.  Lookin good, MAC!

And speaking of MAC, word on the street is that they just hired former New Orleans public defender and Las Vegas contract defender Greg Denue as an associate attorney.

A quick google search turned up an unflattering article about Denue.  If he shows up at CPK's party tonight, Im sure he and Kenny - who attended law school in New Orleans - will have a lot to chat about.

Finally, J. Mac was in the news again this week.  That guy just can't seem to catch a break.

Anything else going on?

Happy Friday, everyone!

Friday Open Thread!

Congratulations are in order for Robert Eglet and Will Kemp.  Yesterday, a jury found three drug companies (Teva Parenteral Medicines Inc., Baxter Healthcare Corp. and McKesson Corp.), liable in the latest high-profile hepatitis C case involving Dipak Desai and the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.  The jury awarded $20.1 million in compensatory damages so far in this case, and Eglet and Kemp will ask for an additional $600 million in punitive damages in the next phase of the trial.

The RJ has the story here.

So, does that mean nice bonuses this year for everyone at Mainor Eglet and Kemp Jones & Coulthard?
